I love making the connections between old, classic jazz/funk pieces and modern hip hop.
Twice recently have I come across the original samples used in hip hop tracks. It gives me the feeling of a revelation, a sort of eureka! moment. Once, RZA‘s Birth with the original 24 Carat Black classic Poverty’s Paradise, and just now with Genelec & Memphis Reigns’ phenomenal song Sunwheel with the original, Ode to a Fillmore Dressing Room by Paul Winter Consort.
Thanks to Alexandre for hooking me up with the original.
